    Cedar Meadows Wildlife Park

    Situated along side the Mattagami river, this 175 acres park is only 3 kilometers from downtown Timmins. Visitors are taken on a wagon ride into the forest where one can observe moose, elk, deer and bison all in there natural habitat. Tours available from June to Sept. daily from 1pm and 3pm. Private tours can be booked year round. Hotel facility adjacent to park.

    Kettle Lakes Provincial Park

    Kettle Lake provides a plethora of recreational opportunities including swimming canoeing, fishing, hiking and more. There are over 120 Lakes and 137 campsites within the vicinity. Plenty of wildlife watching opportunities exist.

    Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park

    The spotlight of this park is shone on the Englehart River, which lunges over a fall, and runs through rock outcrops and deep ravines. The forests and wildflowers are multicoloured – a sight for the eyes and lenses. Kap-Kig-Iwan (meaning waterfalls in Ojibway) has day use facilities, and is frequented by birdwatchers, anglers and hikers. Phone (705) 235-1353 from October to April.

    Esker Lakes Provincial Park

    The 29 lakes in the park are what are left of the glaciers that receded tens of thousands of years ago. Canoeists can easily portage between the lakes for an enjoyable paddle. The hills are draped with forests and sand dunes dot the area, making the area a pleasure to hike. Contact (705) 568-7677 in the summer or (705) 235-1353 in the off-season.

    Greenwater Provincial Park

    The once glacier filled area now is filled with kettle lakes (26 in all) and eskers (sharp-sided ridges of gravel and sand). Boreal forests cloak the area and the waters are stocked with fish. There is a baseball diamond for those who want a friendly game. Four trails weave through the park, ranging from one hour to five hours in duration.

    Rene Brunelle Provincial Park

    Fine sandy beaches, warm waters, excellent fishing – this park has all the makings of a summer dream come true. René Brunelle has a variety of trees and wildlife residents, including lynx, bears and martins.

    Tidewater Provincial Park

    This provincial park, very near the James Bay, consists of four islands in the Moose River. Visitors can use water taxis as transportation. Although red squirrels, rabbits and grouse are the most spotted wildlife, seal and beluga whales have also been seen traveling the river. It is also the site of the first Hudsons Bay Company trading post.
